Throughout history, dentistry has made many advancements, allowing us to better understand oral health, perform better treatments, and prevent dental complications. We now have electronic toothbrushes, floss picks, invisible braces and much, much more. So what exactly does this mean for the future of dentistry? It looks extremely bright! From 3-D printed restorations to robotic dental treatments, we’ll be seeing some very cool advances in dental technology.
In the last few decades, we have seen incredible advances in the dental field, allowing dentists to create more durable restorations in a fraction of the time, whiten teeth in just one appointment and even straighten teeth without the metal!
CAD/CAM Dental Technology
Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing advancements in dentistry have allowed dental restorations such as crowns, inlays, veneers and even bridges to be designed and manufactured in the dental office, allowing for more durable restorations without the wait.
Teeth Whitening
Although the idea of “teeth whitening” has existed for years, recent advancements have allowed for quicker and more efficient teeth whitening without the side effects. Certain teeth bleaching kits can be found over-the-counter. However, these are not as effective or safe as the professional treatment options found at a dental office.
Clear Aligners
For years the only option for correcting orthodontic issues was with traditional metal braces, comprised of wires, bands, and brackets. With advancements in orthodontic treatment, however, new clear “braces” are available. These clear aligners are removable for eating, drinking and caring for oral health.
Dental Implants
Gone are the days of adhesive pastes and ill-fitting dentures. In recent years, dental implants have become a common dental treatment. This treatment allows dentists to restore one or more missing teeth permanently.
With dentistry and technology quickly advancing, more and more state-of-the-art dental equipment and treatment options are becoming more available and affordable, allowing patients all over the world to achieve optimal oral health and a beautiful smile.
