If the thought of visiting your dentist in Spring and Richmond TX, has caused you intense anxiety over the years, it may be time to consider sedation dentistry. There are many different types of sedation dentistry that could work for you.

You may be wondering:

  • What is Sedation Dentistry?
  • What options are available for me?
  • What can I expect?

Our doctors at Charm Dental want to help put your worries at ease. Continue reading below to find out more about Sedation Dentistry.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry is when our dentists provide the patient with a drug before or during your dental procedure at Charm Dental. There are many different types of sedation, but a fairly common one is laughing gas.

Unlike general anesthesia, the patient will be awake for the duration of the procedure. Its known to be effective in reducing the amount of anxiety felt during a dental procedure.
If you’d like heavier anesthesia, IV sedation may be a better choice for you. This sedation doesn’t completely put you to sleep, but you are much less aware of the procedure.

What to Expect During Sedation Dentistry

Depending on the type of sedation you choose, your experience at our Charm Dental office will vary. For example, if you decide on general anesthesia, you will be unconscious for the entire duration of the procedure and may have to spend some additional time in the office to wake up before leaving.

Is Sedation Right for Me?

Ultimately, every patient must make their own decision when it comes to sedation dentistry. However, patients who have an anxiety disorder or who have had negative dental experiences in the past may find that sedation is beneficial for them. Our doctors at Charm Dental want you to have a pleasant experience during your visit, and we will help you find the right type of sedation for you.
